How quickly God’s peace escapes us. We live in a chaotic world; we’re at war with evil, spiritual forces; we have so many things on our plate, we don’t know which one to do first, which results in a nagging feeling of always being behind.
“God is not a God of disorder but of peace…” I Corinthians 14:33 NIV
How can Jesus’ light shine through us to those God has placed in our path, when our emotions are out of control and our mouths speak things contrary to the Word of God.
If you want to change your life, you must be a HEARER of God’s Word and a DOER of God’s Word. One doesn’t work without the other.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22 (NIV)
Otherwise, you will be helplessly wandering in the wilderness, wondering, “Why me!” Obey God’s message: don’t be a fool!
“A fool gives full vent to his spirit but a wise man quietly holds it back.” Proverbs 29:11 (ESV)
In the following Scriptures, Paul tells us how to keep God’s peace:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:4-9 NIV
Dear heavenly Father, life today is so chaotic. It’s hard to watch the news without feeling overwhelmed, and it’s hard to live without feeling as though I’m always behind. Please come into this day with Your peace and calm me. Bring order to my thoughts and help me to control my emotions and my mouth.
Forgive me for yielding to my negative emotions and disregarding Your Word. Forgive me for opening my mouth, and bringing disgrace to all that Jesus stands for. Forgive me for not being a doer of Your Word.
Help me rest by staying in perfect stride with Your Spirit on the path You have set before me.
